Fluorine-18 Fluorodeoxyglucose Isolation Using Graphene Oxide for Alternative Radiopharmaceutical Spillage Decontamination in PET Scan

Radiopharmaceuticals (RPC) used for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in nuclear medicine may contaminate surface areas due to spillage during its preparation or accident RPC transfer from laboratory the treatment room. Fluorine-18 Fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) is most common positron emission tomography (PET) scan ideal annihilation converted energy at 511 keV short half-life 109.8 min. Ineffective medical waste management of 18F-FDG pose a risk environment cause unnecessary radiation doses personnel public. Depending on incident rate these events, simple decontamination methods such as use chemicals swabs might not be cost-effective sustainable environment. This study aims propose an alternative method decontaminate by using graphene oxide (GO). GO was synthesised Hummers while physical morphology analysed field scanning electron microscope (FESEM). adsorption efficiency nanolayers based kinetic GO:18F-FDG mixtures. The chemical adsorbability material via UV–vis spectrophotometer interlink microstructures with sorption affinity interaction. Resultantly, effective slow decay optical dominated ? ? ?* plasmon peak, which near 230 nm. By elucidating underlining special features, technique isolate process successfully proven.
